PLAYBOY BROUGHT OLD PLAYMATES BACK TO RECREATE COVERS, EVEN CONNOR HEFNER’S MOM, KIMBERLEY CONRAD HEFNER

Playboy went and recreated the covers of seven playmates from past editions, but spared us what they look like completely nude today. The women were: Cathy St. George – October 1982, Lisa Matthews – June 1991, Renee Tenison – June 1990, Charlotte Kemp – October 1982, Candace Collins – February 1979, Monique St. Pierre – June 1979, Kimberly Conrad Hefner – August 1988 (and yes, that’s current chief creative officer Connor Hefner’s mom). If we’re being honest, only a few aged well. We’ll let you decide for yourself. It gets a little weird because Connor Hefner had to ask his mom to participate in the recreations, and he did it on Mother’s Day. “Pretty unconventional of a Mother’s Day present,” he joked in a video posted on Twitter. But we assume that sort of fucked up type of shit happens when you’re Hugh Hefner’s son.

Lisa Matthews, from the June 1991 cover, is only 47 now, so she was one of the hotter ones. She said about her original cover that people would come up to her to say they saw her on a magazine, but were too embarrassed to say which magazine. “Once it came out, I remember I’d be traveling and people would come up to me. The thing they’d always say is, ‘You’re name is Lisa, right?’ And then they’d say, ‘I think I’ve seen you in a national magazine.’ I’d sit there and say, ‘Oh, which one?’ Like you have to say it!” She added, “If you have enough guts to come up and say something, then you’ve got to be able to say Playboy. The funniest place that happened was outside the Vatican in Rome.” Even priests need some relief now and then too.

Reneé Tenison, the first African-American Playmate of the Year, is also on the younger and more attractive recreation side, cause she’s 48 and “black don’t crack.” She talked about how back then, her cover was controversial. “When I did Playboy, there was a little bit of controversy because I was the first African-American Playmate of the Year and some women were saying I was being objectified. But I said, ‘Well, if you’re pro-choice, shouldn’t I have the right to choose what I want to do?’ If I want to pose nude, I should be able to pose nude!” Renee said. She added, “When the issue came out, the response was 90 percent positive and maybe 10 percent didn’t like it. If you look back, all the big models from Christy Turlington to Naomi Campbell posed nude. I see it as art. Not everybody sees it that way, but that’s how I see it.” We couldn’t agree more.
